Ministry of Culture Reveals Initial Investigation Result Over Alleged Angkor Wat Replica in Thailand

The abbot of the allegedly Angkor Wat-like temple in Thailand has claimed that the construction of the temple in Buri Ram province did not copy the design of Angkor Wat, but as the floorplan was originally designed based on the inspiration of some other temples in the area.

This is according to preliminary information obtained by Cambodian Embassy officials in Bangkok during their site inspection, as stated in a Ministry of Culture and Fine Art press release on the morning of 7 July.

The investigation came after criticism on social media that the Siha Nakorn temple in Thailand is being built copying the style of Angkor Wat. (Read more)

The abbot of the temple said that the Siha Nakorn temple was one of a variety of stone temples.

He added that based on the master plan, the temple is not built by copying the architectural structure from Angkor Wat temple or any other temples in Cambodia, citing that it is built followed their own design and other architecture structures from other temples in the country.

However, representatives of the temple still welcome any probe or visit by the Cambodian experts to check the architectural structure at the temple if any doubts remained.
