Transport Minister: Severe Punishment Imposed on Overweight Vehicles Regardless of Social Ranking

The Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol has warned that arrests and the imposition of severe punishment will be meted out on all overweight trucks that damage public roads and emphasised that the law is applied equally regardless of social ranking without any exception.

HE Sun Chanthol made the statement on 22 June during a construction site inspection of the weighing station on NR3.

“Even with many weighing stations, there are still many trucks violating the weight limit which cause big damages to the roads. Thus, in addition to weighing stations, we will also send out special teams to randomly check the vehicle at different spots,” said HE Chanthol.

“Whether they are small [general people] or big [high-ranking officers and wealthy individuals], if they damage roads, we will arrest them all. Since I began doing this, I never gave one exception. No one ever calls me to request for an exception either. Thus, please stop violating the weight limit,” he added.
