PM Breaks Ground on US$200m NR3 Improvement Project

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of the National Road No. 3 improvement project connecting Chom Chao to Kampot town on 7 May.

The improvement project runs 134 kilometres connecting Chom Chao to Bek Kus and then to Kampot town. From Chom Chao to Bek Kus, the road will be broadened to four lanes of 24.5 metres wide using asphalt concrete. From Bek Kus to Kampot, the road will remain two lanes but will be widened to 12 metres and also using asphalt concrete.

The 48-month project is being implemented under a combined budget of USD200 million from the Cambodian government and a preferential buyers’ credit loan from the government of China.

“National Road No.3 is a very important route where salt is delivered from Kampot province to the rest of country. It is also the road connecting Phnom Penh to the beautiful coastal area of Cambodia,” said Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen.

“We also would like to express our big thanks and gratitude to the government of China who always helps Cambodia with many projects and especially infrastructure projects,” he added.
