MPWT to Establish Cambodia’s First Public and Transport Skills Training Institute

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has partnered with the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) to establish the first Public and Transport Skills Training Institute in Cambodia, focusing on road and bridge construction skills.

The MoU signing ceremony was held on 12 January under the presidency of HE Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport and HE Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports.

“Currently, due to the lack of technical experts, every time we build any roads or bridge, we frequently hire foreigners. Therefore, this institute will help equip the Cambodian youth with qualified road and bridge constructing skills. Then, we don’t have to rely on foreign experts in the future,” said HE Chanthol.

The institute is named the “Techo Sen Institute of Public Works and Transport”, which can accommodate at least 600 students. However, in the first stage, the school will accept only 200 students.

“We are planning to open next month. We are now waiting for the ITC to recruit students. Meanwhile, the exams will be held on the 19 this month,” he added.

HE Sun Chanthol hopes that this institute will create more qualified Cambodian engineers with sufficient skills to build roads, bridges and other infrastructures.
