Japan Funds US$1 billion for Infrastructure Development in Cambodia

Japan provided at least US$1 billion in funds, including grant aid and loans for Cambodia infrastructure development, according to the Minister of Public Works and Transport (MPWT).

Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol stated the figure during the handover ceremony of 15 pieces of construction machinery as grant aid from Japan on 12 October.

HE Sun Chanthol said that Japan has provided both grant aid and loans to help rehabilitate and construct many key infrastructures in Cambodia. Those include:

  • The upgrades of NR6, NR7, and NR1 (254.3 km long with a budget of US$189.1 million)
  • Kizuna and Tsebasa Bridges (3,575m long with a budget of US$186 million)
  • Chroy Changvar bridge restoration (1,080m long with a budget of US$30 million)
  • NR5 upgrade (366km with a budget of US$500 million)
  • Reconstruction of 7 bridges in Prey Veng and Kratie provinces (US$35 million in grant aid)

On the occasion, HE Sun Chanthol also expressed his sincere thanks to the Japanese government for the assistance.
