Feasibility Study for Mondulkiri Airport to be Complete Early Next Year

The feasibility study for Mondulkiri airport is set to be complete early next year, a step towards connecting the northeastern provinces with other provinces in the country.

Spokesman of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) Sin Chanserivutha said the study mainly is focusing on the social and environmental impacts at this stage.

“Besides the impact, we are also looking in financial feasibility as well. Once the study is complete, we submit the result to the committee for approval. Then, we will know what to do next,” said HE Sin.

“Thus, we have yet to select any developers. We wait until the study is complete, which should be the upcoming January,” he added.

HE Sin also explained that the SSCA is responsible for conducting the feasibility study, but the final decision is in the power of the inter-ministerial team.

Located in O’rang district, the Mondulkiri airport project aims to promote the development of agri-tourism and connect the northeastern provinces with other provinces in the country and the region.

Besides the airport project, the government is also mulling transforming Mondulkiri province into an international tourism destination. The 2020-2035 master plan will be completed by late this year and is expected to be approved by the government by early next year. (Read more)
