Australia to Support Smart City Development in Sihanoukville

The Australian Embassy in Cambodia has selected Sihanoukville as one of the priority destinations for smart city development and will continue to support this plan through the AU$49m Investing in Infrastructure (#3i) program.

This is according to a virtual ‘Smart City Initiative Prioritisation Workshop’ held in late June.

Second Secretary at the Australian Embassy Anthony Samson said Australia would work closely with the provincial administration to promote the implementation of its flagship 3i program, focusing on smart cities.

“The smart city project selection is a crucial step in our smart city cooperation, as well as in Australia’s efforts to support Cambodia in effectively responding to the pandemic,” said Mr Samson.

“As our ambassador mentioned during his meeting with the governor of Sihanoukville province, taking a smart approach to city development allows for improved service deliveries that are sustainable and cost-effective,” he added.

In response, Sihanoukville Deputy Governor Mr Kong Vitanak said that the provincial administration will help collect more inputs and pave the way for easy implementation of this project.
